5 Easy Concepts for Portraits in a Park – Fstoppers

A park is a fantastic place to shoot portraits, full of interesting architecture, compelling light, and eye-catching foliage. If you would like to explore your creativity a bit, check out this fantastic video tutorial that will show you five easy concepts for shooting portraits in a park.

Coming to you from our good friend, Pye Jirsa, with SLR Lounge, this awesome video tutorial will show you five straightforward but effective concepts for portraits in a park. Parks are fantastic for portraits because they offer so many natural settings conducive to creating interesting photos. As you will see, one of the best setups is a backlit portrait. One thing you should consider is bringing along a small flash and modifier or a reflector to bring a little light back onto your subject. You will probably want to expose your photo to keep from blowing out that golden backdrop, and in doing so, you will likely underexpose your subject, sometimes by a significant margin. Instead of reducing image quality by pulling up the shadows a ton, getting a more balanced exposure from the start will result in a better final photo. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Jirsa.
