Catching Memories Through The Lens

Infamous Simu Liu Stock Photos Hilariously Reclaimed By Marvel Star – Screen Rant

Simu Liu, star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, reclaims his infamous stock photos in a hilarious fashion. Although first known to many for his role on Kim’s Convenience, Liu would later rocket to fame with his role in last year’s Shang-Chi. The film, which was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, was a hit with both audiences and critics. Not long after its release, Marvel confirmed that Shang-Chi 2 had officially been given the green light, with Liu due to return as the new MCU hero.

Although now a household name amongst Marvel fans, Liu has been open about his career before he made it big in acting, often mentioning his early job as a stock photo model and Spider-Man impersonator. The actor previously revealed that, while in credit card debt, he took a job as a stock photo model for $120. The pictures see Liu in a variety of situations, including doing a workout, and working in a business setting with a team of professionals. In addition to starring as Shang-Chi, Liu also recently released a book, We Were Dreamers, chronicling his difficult journey to becoming a Marvel star.

In a new post on Twitter celebrating his book hitting the New York Times Bestsellers List, Liu hilariously edits his old Zumba stock photos in an effort to “reclaim” them. The new versions of the images feature Liu working out while holding We Were Dreamers. The edits are clearly not supposed to look seamless, with Liu’s hand clipping through the book or appearing as if his fingers have been cut off. The Marvel actor also uses the post to thank Ryan Reynolds and Olivia Munn, who contributed back cover blurbs. While now representing one of the central Phase 4 MCU characters, it’s clear that Liu, instead of trying to hide his past modeling work, is happy to embrace and draw attention to it. Many actors would perhaps find the work embarrassing, but Liu’s attempts to reclaim the pictures by using them to promote his book is a clever way to embrace his past while still looking to the future. In the comments on the post, users are clearly amused by the edits, with some even taking to editing their own version of Liu’s old stock photos to feature the cover of We Were Dreamers.

It remains to be seen what is next for Liu in the MCU and if Shang-Chi will appear in any Avengers-style team-ups in addition to the expected sequel. For now, Liu’s attempt to reclaim his stock photos seems to have worked, making him an even more beloved figure in the process. Both on the screen and off, Liu has proven himself an exciting new edition to the MCU, with many audiences already clamoring for the character to appear in another movie or show beyond Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
