Catching Memories Through The Lens

La Cité des Électriciens : “A welcomed complicity! The Ch’tis in the eye of Jean-Claude Lother” – The Eye of Photography

The Cité des Électriciens is dedicating its new temporary exhibition to the work of Jean-Claude Lother, a great still photographer, who notably took part in making the photographs of successful films such as Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (some cult scenes of which were shot at the Cité des Électriciens), Baron Noir or Merry Christmas. With this new proposal offered to its visitors, the Cité des Électriciens – site of memory, encounters and creation – affirms its mission to contribute to the renewal of the imagination, representations and stories relating to the domestic life and the living landscape of the mining basin.

The exhibition is also part of the program of festivities around the tenth anniversary of the listing of the Mining Basin as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 45 images by Jean-Claude Lother presented in the “House of the Engineer”, the temporary exhibition space of the Cité des Électriciens, invite viewers to enter into the intimacy of a film shoot; and not least! They will find the protagonists of Baron Noir, Merry Christmas, the Invisibles, Welcome to the Ch’tis… so many films and series with large audiences and having been made in Hauts-de-France. But the exhibition A Welcome Complicity! Les Ch’tis dans l’œil de Jean-Claude Lother is also an invitation to test the way we look at this Region, by freeing ourselves from clichés that are too widely conveyed.
